Climate and Energy Blog

Check here for our personal reflections on clean, community energy in Marin.

Welcome to The Climate and Energy Blog. MarinCommunityEnergy.org is committed to creating, supporting, and enhancing conversations and actions in our community, our region, our state, and in our nation, that drive the urgently needed transformation to a Renewable Energy Economy — it's our future.

There are so many ways available to Americans in general, and Californians in particular, to join and multiply the growing momentum of the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. Here at MCE we've chosen one particular path. We have the good fortune to be Californians — the first State in the U.S. to pass a comprehensive policy, The Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (Assembly Bill 32) that will lead the United States to a fossil fuel-free future. Within that context, we Californians also have the benefit of another foresighted state policy — The Community Choice Aggregation Act (AB117) of 2002.

City Councils And Supervisors To Vote By November

Marin County, along with several other local governments (San Joaquin County and San Francisco City and County are two leading examples), has chosen to pioneer Community Choice for Local Electrical Power, in the form of our Marin Clean Energy Initiative. Between now and next November, the City Councils of our cities and towns, along with our County Supervisors, will decide on ordinances that, if passed by a sufficient number of our communities, will create a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) that will direct Marin Clean Energy. What makes Marin's program unique and progressive is its commitment to renewable energy as the source of our electricity.

Our web site and blog are dedicated to delivering the whole story of Marin Clean Energy to you, from its history to its future.
